This statement does not form part of any student or applicant contract.

As you complete the student application form, we want to assure you that we are committed to protecting your privacy and complying with the Data Protection Act 2020 of Jamaica. The purpose of this statement is to let you know how the university collects, holds, uses and safeguards your personal data. It is our responsibility as a data controller to be transparent and to ensure the security of your data.

The information you provide, including your personal data, will be used for the purpose of assessing your eligibility for admission to the University of Technology, Jamaica (“UTech, Ja”) to evaluate and process your application, give you advice, invite you to events and offer support that may be needed. Your information, where necessary, will be shared with academic and administrative staff, the Institutional Research unit, the Ministry of Education and Youth, the Students’ Union and third parties such as the Students’ Loan Bureau. We may also use your data for our research purposes.

If you are successful and become admitted to the University, your physical records will be stored securely and accessible only to authorized personnel at the Student Records Office. We may also share your exam script with external examiners in other territories for academic quality review. We have implemented technical and organizational measures to protect your data from unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, and destruction. If you do not become an admitted student, we will keep your physical records for no more than one year. For both admitted and not admitted applicants, we hold your information in our student management system.

You have the right to access and rectify your personal information held by UTech, Ja. We reserve the right to update this privacy statement to reflect changes in our data processing practices. Any updates will be communicated to you through our official channels.
